The DC Capital Striders Running Group began in Spring 2006. The group's primary purpose and vision is to allow runners of all endurance levels, paces, distances and months or years of running experience to run together in a non-competitive atmosphere and to get to know each other through a variety of social activities.

Runs are scheduled all throughout the week as well as weekends at various locations (both morning and evening) throughout the metropolitan Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia region. Each run is open to any runner regardless of experience. It is highly suggested that you review the description of the run and determine whether or not it is right for you. Each run leader/organizer is experienced with the courses and can alter the course pending who is out there and what each runner is interested in. If you wish to join a run, please state in your RSVP the distance and pace that you project you might be interested in. This will allow the organizer to get feedback from the interested runners.

Many of the runs are located near metro stations to allow for easier access to the start locations. Some runs have vehicles available to store personal gear (work clothes, other items) but this is not always the case. If you wish to store personal gear, please state this in your RSVP as well; but be cautious cause vehicles may not always be available.

Paid Membership:

We do not skimp when it comes to benefits for our paid members. We offer discounts with many local and national running related companies, nutritional products, fitness studios, races. But the greatest benefit received by our members is meeting other people who share your passion and energy for running, walking or other exercise activities, which usually leads to life-long friendships.

You do not have to be a member to join us for a run, all are welcome. However, there are a lot more benefits to being a member!

Event: Wednesday Morning Fun Run Time: Start at 6:30 AM Location: Meet in front of Tenleytown Metro Station (4501 Wisconsin ave nw Washington dc - corner of Wisconsin and ablemarle st nw) Run Leader: Kelly D. Distance: Between 3 to 6 miles (you can decide what is best for you) Pace: Open to all paces (you decide what is best for you) Cancellation Policy: If pouring, lightning, or thunder, run will be canceled - use your best judgment. Rachel will check the RSVP list either the evening before the runs or the morning of the runs to see who is coming. If you sign up and say you will be there, please make sure you are there so Rachel is not waiting for you.

GREAT FALLS Evening Trail (Va)

8801 Georgetown Pike

EVENT: Wednesday Evening Trail Run in partnership with Virginia Happy Trails Running Club (VHTRC) TIME: Depart shortly after 6 PM COURSE: Trail runs leaving from Difficult Run Parking Lot. Located right off Georgetown Pike between Old Dominion Drive and Towlston Road Use address: 8801 Georgetown Pike - Mclean, Va 22102 Some flat, some hilly - we will all decide the course in the parking lot. DISTANCE: Complete a distance that is good for you - everyone doesn't run the same distance, so we will determine together who is doing what distance and make sure you know the course. Distances typically vary from 3 miles up to 10 miles pending time of season and who is running that evening. PACE: Open to all paces - again not everyone runs at the same pace, so we will try to split up into groups the best we can. WHAT TO BRING: Bring hydration if you need, trail running shoes are a plus, comfortable running gear. HEADLAMPS are strongly encouraged in late Fall, Winter, and Early Spring Months! Shaw's Tavern

STAY SAFE!!!*** Time: Runners meet between 6:15 and 6:30 pm, a few announcements and then run will leave shortly after 6:30 pm. Course: We run in the city on sidewalks, and routes often include hills. We change routes frequently but tend toward loops through the U St corridor, Columbia Heights and other nearby neighborhoods. The group is invited to stay for post-run food and drinks after ($5 Sam Adams) Pace: Open to all paces. Run group leaders will do their best to split runners up into pace groups.
