9/11 and the Pentagon - FREE In-Person Guided Walking Tour
On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four planes. Two slammed into the World Trade Center in New York. One crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after the passengers attempted to take back control from the terrorists. And one hit the Pentagon. This walking tour will focus on the story of the Pentagon and 9/11.
The Walking Tour will start at the Pentagon City Mall (near the Metro entrance) where we will discuss some of the significant terrorist attacks before 9/11. Then, we walk to the Pentagon parking lot where we will discuss the building of the Pentagon and the need for renovations which began in earnest in 1998. Then we will walk to the western façade of the Pentagon where American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon and provide stories of the Heroes and Survivors. And then we explore the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial just as the sun starts setting.
