Details
The first burials at Robert E Lee's Arlington House were meant to contaminate the site and make it impossible for the site to return to use as a family home.
The Arlington National Cemetery was established on JUne 15, 1864, by order of General Montgomery Meigs of the Union Army's Quartermaster Corps.
We'll start at the top of the hill at the L'Enfant grave overlooking Washington, and walk around the cemetery, downhill back towards the Visitor's Center
