Van Gogh Film Fest: “Loving Vincent" Livestream (Film 4 of 4)
Details
Vincent Van Gogh died one-hundred and thirty-two years ago, July 29, 1890.
In memory of Vincent we invite you to join us for our second annual “Vincent Van Gogh Film Fest.”
As a non-profit history organization, we believe films are a great resource for studying history.
Therefore, we have scheduled four different films, each of which uniquely presents the life and career of Vincent Van Gogh - please see the schedule below.
Van Gogh Film Fest Schedule: July 25-28, 2022
Lust for Life: Monday, July 25 - 8:00 PM EST (Washington, DC time)
Painted with Words: Tuesday, July 26 - 8:00 PM EST (Washington, DC time)
At Eternity’s Gate: Wednesday, July 27 - 8:00 PM EST (Washington, DC time)
Loving Vincent: Thursday, July 28 - 8:00 PM EST (Washington, DC time)
Unfortunately, due to the time commitment required to host this program each film will only be shown once.
Also, due to copyrights the films will only be available to watch with us at the scheduled times.
However, the films can always be watched on your own (YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc.).
Each film history program will have two parts.
The first portion of our two-part program (approximately 15-30 minutes) will be a brief overview of the film including its historical context, plot summary, things to look for, accuracy, etc.
The second portion of our two-part program will be a full screening of the film.
During the screening you are welcome to join your fellow participants in a live online discussion of the film via Zoom.

We’ll also be hosting three related livestream programs:
Van Gogh Museum: Amsterdam - Livestream Tour
Vincent Van Gogh’s Self-Portraits
Van Gogh In the Mid-Atlantic: 21 DC/MD/VA Paintings
These three additional programs we’ll be posted on our calendar as soon as the details are finalized.
Thank you!

Loving Vincent is a 2017 experimental animated biographical drama film about the life of the painter Vincent van Gogh, and, in particular, about the circumstances of his death. It is the first fully painted animated feature film. The film, written and directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, is a Polish-UK co-production, funded by the Polish Film Institute, and partially through a Kickstarter campaign.
First conceived as a seven-minute short film in 2008, Loving Vincent was realized by Dorota Kobiela, a painter herself, after studying the techniques and the artist's story through his letters.
Each of the film's 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, created using the same techniques as Van Gogh by a team of 125 artists drawn from around the globe. The film premiered at the 2017 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. It won Best Animated Feature Film Award at the 30th European Film Awards in Berlin and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 90th Academy Awards.
