Union Army General William T. Sherman served throughout the Civil War from 1861 to 1865. Although his name is usually associated with the battles of Shiloh, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, and Atlanta, and his destructive "March to the Sea" through Georgia, his first combat experience was at the First Battle of Bull Run in July 1861.

Join Museum educator John Maass for a walking tour of Sherman's actions on the field during the war's first major battle.

This free 2-3 hour walking tour takes place Manassas National Battlefield Park beginning, and ending, at the Stone Bridge parking lot on U.S. 29.
Participants provide their own transportation and water. The program will be offered on May 2 and 4 starting promptly at 10 a.m.

Ability Level: moderate due to terrain. The hike will be on unpaved trails in hilly terrain.
