Sometimes people from somewhere with low or no internet want to stream their voice to audience on the other end of Internet. Local Development with Docker and Docker Compose
Dylan McCarthy
"Development can be hard and everyone has their own tools they prefer to use. What if we could make the local development experience more consistent for everyone regardless of the tools they use? Using Docker and Docker Compose we can create a container based development workflow that can be used across multiple IDEs keeping configurations the same and providing a consistent experience."
Joys and pitfalls of building a site for my podcast
Amelia Travers
In 2020 I started a podcast, Avid Research, about STEM careers. I wanted to keep it affordable and also build a folio piece, and so I built the platform myself using Gatsby on AWS Amplify with a few plugins. This talk is about the technical decisions made, the design decisions made, and how quickly I realised they didn't scale. It includes a diagram of the architecture, where the code and design is at now and what comes next. I'll touch on the ups and downs, shipping at 60% done, and embracing learning as you go.

From Imposter Life to Imposter Moments: Tips from a Psychologist turned Software Engineer
Cristi Middag
Have you ever felt like you don’t actually deserve your success? Like you don’t belong, and everyone is going to discover you’re a fraud? If so, you’re in good company. A whopping 58% of tech workers report experiencing imposter feelings currently in their career, including employees from Apple, Google, Facebook and Uber. And when I started as a developer, I quickly became one of them. So why do so many of us feel like we’re undeserving of our success? What’s the cause of this industry-wide lack of self-confidence? And what can we do about it? I needed answers. Because as a former-psychologist, I should be able to fix this in no-time, right? (wrong..). In this talk, join me on my journey of changing careers and navigating through a new industry while feeling like an imposter. Find out why you can’t (and shouldn’t have to) ban out imposter feelings on your own, and get the tools and insights you need to turn an imposter life into imposter moments.
