Bristol Open Data is returning on Tuesday 23rd April for a session dedicated to learning about Open Street Map.
Introducing us to this topic will be Neil Matthews, a Bristol Open Data regular and experienced OpenStreetmapper. He'll be telling us all about this map built by a community of mappers that contribute and maintain data about roads, trails, cafés, railway stations, and much more, all over the world.
After the session you'll know how to use the data provided by OSM, and how to contribute to it too! The presentation content will suit people new to OSM, but we are also hosting a discussion and knowledge sharing segment to share knowledge and talk about projects and potential applications and usages - so people with varying levels of OSM skills are welcome to come and join in.
The rough schedule for the evening will be as follows:
* 6:30pm Arrive
* 6:45 Introduction from Jen
* 6:50 Neil Matthews - Intro to Open Street Map
* 7:20 PIZZA BREAK!
* 7:30 Discussion / Q&A and knowledge sharing - maps! maps! maps!
* 7:45 "Community Shout Outs" (see below)
* 8pm Networking
* 8:30pm End
Community Shout Outs - what are they?
We're going to continue a tradition started in other meetup groups where we allow a bit of time for any attendee to come up and give a quick shout out to the group about any subject/project/event that they think the other attendees might be interested in. The only "rules" are to keep it VERY brief (< a minute) and no selling or recruiting. If there's any details such as web addresses/twitter feeds / contact info then you pop them on a sticky note that we'll display for the rest of the event.
If for any reason you aren't comfortable speaking in front of the group, but still want to get some news out there, just speak to one of the organisers and we'll relay the information on your behalf.
Our venue and refreshments are kindly provided from the very generous Just Eat, who not only are supplying the room and equipment, but also beer, soft drinks and meat and vegetarian pizza (please note they do not have vegan options).
2nd Floor, Broad Quay House, Prince St, Bristol BS1 4DJ
There will be security on the door in reception, where you will have to sign in by name (the attendee list will be from the meetup.com event, so RSVP and please do update your attendance if you're not able to make it along)
The venue has a rear entrance which is wheelchair accessible, a downstairs accessible toilet & lifts.
As the rear entrance is locked outside of normal business hours - please send us a message before the event so that we can arrange to meet you.
