Topic: Diversity & Update DrupalCon Vienna

Regardeless of recent events within the Drupal Community, we have been planning this Meetup for several weeks because we want to improve the Drupal Austria Community's inclusiveness. We would also be very happy to welcome new faces (and esp. women+, which we are lacking at the moment) who are interested or working in digital professions, connect with them and show new ways and opportunities within an open source context (social and technical).

• Building an inclusive Open Source community – by Laura Gaetano (full talk)
Everyone is talking about the importance of making Open Source projects newcomer-friendly and diverse, but why does it matter — and what’s in it for you? Drawing from my own experience with Rails Girls Summer of Code, I will share stories of first-time contributions, successful examples in supporting and mentoring newcomers, and will lead you through the steps you can take as a contributor or maintainer to make the community of your project more inclusive.

About Laura
Laura is a manager at Travis Foundation and the organiser of Rails Girls Summer of Code (https://railsgirlssummerofcode.org/) — a 3-month scholarship program to support women in the Open Source community. With a background in the visual arts and a non-traditional career path, she landed in tech as a web developer somewhat by accident. Laura is passionate about making things, coaching at programming workshops, Open Source software, feminism, music and space (as in rockets).

Europe Code Week is a grassroots initiative which aims to bring coding and digital literacy to everybody in a fun and engaging way. (average age of attendees: 10,7 - 46% percent are female)

JedeR ist eingeladen, eine Präsentation zu einem Drupal-Thema zu halten, sei es ein aktuelles Projekt oder ein interessantes Modul.

The Drupal Austria Meetup is dedicated to people interested in the Content Management System Drupal. We welcome everybody from beginners to Drupal ninjas and would be happy to see you present a recent project of yours or talk about any other Drupal-related topic. And of course we have to celebrate!
