Microservices with Thorntail.io:
Thomas Herzog
Microservices are relatively small and fully de-coupled applications which run in their own process and commonly communicate via HTTP/S. Microservices provide and communicate via well defined APIs and don’t share any other dependencies.
In a Java world, Microservices run as standalone JARs and not in an application server anymore. Spring Boot was the first framework which provided tooling to conveniently implement and run Microservices, but their was nothing there for us in the plain JEE world until Thorntail.io arrived. Thorntail.io is an framework which allows to deploy JEE applications as a standalone JARs. The application itself is still a common WAR and actually runs in an wildfly application server, which is packaged into the standalone JAR.

The current 90ies of machine learning, what's missing?
David Baumgartner
Machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, you name it, is nowadays used in countless projects. There is some enforcement to use Machine learning in some way that the company can state that they apply artificial intelligence.
In a prototyping scenario, people tend to ignore conventions and work in their way, but what about production and all the typical stuff for a software development project. There are a lot of tools and libraries, but is something missing? Let us highlight some issues I encountered and ran into in my machine learning projects. In all those cases, I wished there were more solid tools around, which would have made my daily life less painful. For the good of all, there are some tools, but it could be better.

Spoonboy - Wie uns ein Thermodrucker serverless satt macht
It's not always obvious how to make developers (as well as data-scientists) happy.
In this talk we will focus on how we solved that for the most basic of our needs – meals!
Spoonboy, the name for our little slackbot, is making sure that everyone who is in need of a warm meal is taken care of.
In a serverless fashion, running completely within the free tier of AWS, Spoonboy keeps us well fed.
We will show how this little gem, built during one of our hackathons, was realized using AWS WebsocketApiGateway and a bunch of Lambdas.
