Zope is not dead! Plone and other projects are using it as solid, mature basis in large production environments. Nevertheless, also on mature projects some renovation has to be done and now it is time for a new round:

1. Zope 4.0

The successor of 2.13, without unnecessary burdens of the past but with WSGI support. We have to find out, what remaining obstacles have to be removed and do a first release.

2. Python 3

Python 2.7 will have its sunset date in 2020 and even without this fact, there are enough reasons to switch to Python 3 from a developer's point of view. A large fraction of Zope (be it 2.13 or 4.0) is already Python 3 compatible ( https://zope3.pov.lt/py3/ ), but a cluster of packages around RestrictedPython is still missing. We want to find a way, how to deal with RestictedPython, making it optional or porting it to Python 3.
