Let's try something new and do a three day hike through the Jizera mountains, crossing the border from Poland to Czech Republic!
Important info - please read it now:
- This is a non-commercial event. You are responsible by yourself to research and book your accommodation in the area. You are bearing the complete risk (bad weather, etc).
- For transportation, having a Deutschlandticket is certainly the most recommendable and most economical option. For the polish part of the ride, tickets will be around 11 Euro.
- This is an advanced hike. You should wear proper hiking shoes and have a certain surefootedness. On the first day, we will walk about 17 to 20 km and have to manage an elevation gain of 720 meters. On the last day, we will walk about 18 to 20 km and have to manage an elevation gain of 820 meters. Expect that you need to climb over fallen trees and rocks. At some points, you might need to use your hands to stabilize your steps.
Itinerary
Day 1
- 06:23 Departure with RE2 train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof station. We need to change trains in Cottbus and Görlitz.
- 10:55 Arrival at Swieradów Zdrój (Poland); start of hike
- We will arrive in Libverda (Czech Republic) between 17:00 and 18:00
Day 2
- Hike around Libverda and Hejnice
Day 3
- 9:00 start of hike in Libverda
- We will arrive in Swieradów Zdrój between 15:30 and 17:00
- 18:03 Departure of train from Swieradów Zdrój. We need to change trains in Görlitz and Cottbus
- 22:35 Arrival in Berlin
Accomodation
You are responsible to book accomodation by yourself. You should book accommodation as soon as possible. Looking at the accommodation situation, it is probably most economical to share rooms. Then, you can expect rates between 45 and 70 Euros per person and night. You can use the comments of the Meetup to look for other participants who could share a room.
You can book in Libverda or in the neighboring village Heijnice

A word of advice regarding this: The best option is of course to share accomodation with people you already know. If you do now know people so well, have at least a brief conversation on the phone (not only by text messages) in order to quickly get an agreement on the details. Also, if you book an accomodation option without free cancellation, make sure that everybody agrees to pay their share even if someone cannot attend.
There might be more options which are not listed on Booking or Expedia. Checking Google Maps can be helpful.
In any case, make sure that your accommodation allows checkin between 17:00 and 19:00.
