Through the Grumsin world nature heritage to the Grimnitzsee (15 to 20 km hike)

Let's walk through Uckermark and the Grumsin forest to the Grimnitzsee!

The landscape of Uckermark was shaped by the ice age. After the glaciers retracted, they left a hilly area spotted with lots of lakes of various sizes.

The Grumsin forest is a primeval beech forest and protected as Unesco world nature heritage site. As a primeval forest, it is quite different to many forests you see in Brandenburg. We'll meet on Sunday at 10:28 at Angermünde railway station. Angermünde can be reached from Berlin with the RE 3 train. At Angermüde, we will hop onto the bus 497 to reach the village Zuchenberg.

From Zuchenberg, we will walk....
- through the Grumsin forest
- along the Plunzsee
- along the Brackensee
- pass by a number of active and historic mines
- through the village Althüttendorf

We will reach the Grimnitzsee after about 14 km, where we can have an extended break. The Grimitzsee offers some nice beaches, so some swimming would be possible.

If you want to finish the hike then, it is only a 20 minutes walk to the railway station of Althüttendorf. Otherwise, we can walk on towards Joachimsthal to catch the train there. At 17:27, a direct train to Berlin Gesundbrunnen leaves from Joachimsthal Kaiserbahnhof.

Train Tickets: The Deutschlandticket can be used to do the train rides. If you do not have a Deutschlandticket feel welcome to use the comments to seek out for others which can share a Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket.

Important things to note:

• You are all responsible for yourself. None of us is mountain guide or something like that.
• Be prepared for mosquitos, sunny weather and businesses that accept cash only.
• There won't be too many Späties in the woods, so have enough water and food with you.
• Please note that the number of participants is limited, because at a certain size a group gets virtually unmanageable. As the demand may be higher than the number of available spots, please be fair and only RSVP if you are sure that you can make it. If you learn later that you cannot take part, please update your RSVP accordingly.
