See all- Spreewald hike with visit of windmill (27 to 28 km hike)Bf. Ostkreuz, Berlin
On Whit Monday, the "Deutscher Mühlentag" (day of the mill) takes place. On this day, many mills in Germany open their doors and give special presentations.
So, let's use this occasion to go to the windmill in Straupitz in Spreewald and combine it with a hike!
The Straupitz Windmill is the last functioning triple-mill (Dreifachwindmühle) in Europe, uniting three trades under one roof: a grain mill (Kornmühle), an oil mill (Ölmühle), and a sawmill (Sägemühle). Originally built in 1850 as a Dutch-style mill, it has undergone extensive restoration since the 1990s and now operates as both a working heritage site and a technical monument. Run by a dedicated mill association, the mill still saws logs and presses the famous Spreewaldgold linseed oil using century-old techniques.

On Monday, we will take the RE2 departing at 9:40 from Berlin Ostkreuz and go to the station Lübben. From Lübben, we take the bus 500 leaving at 10:40. We will arrive in Straupitz at 11:13.
In Straupitz, we can spend some time at the mill and then start our hike back to Lübbenau. From Lübbenau, we can then take either the RE2 or the RE7 back to Berlin.
Important things to note:
- This is a relatively easy hike with quite a long distance. Thus, you should be sure that you are able to walk this distance.
- Spreewald is mosquito paradise. Please be prepared for that!
- You are all responsible for yourself. None of us is mountain guide or something like that.
- Please note that the number of participants is limited, because at a certain size a group gets virtually unmanageable. As the demand may be higher than the number of available spots, please be fair and only RSVP if you are sure that you can make it. If you learn later that you cannot take part, please update your RSVP accordingly.
- Having some cash for the event in the mill could prove useful.
