What is permaculture?

Permaculture is a design thinking process pointing to create human centred ecosystems that provide a thriving environment for both, humans and nature. What is it that we humans need to thrive; and what does the land and the ecosystem need to thrive; are questions that move us forward here. Permaculture is about having a conversation with the land and with each other. It ́s an interactive process, that helps us to find effective and integrative solutions for a sustainable use of land.

The connection to shyft (http://www.shyft.org):

Permaculture contributes to the shyft of paradigms that hold up our current way of food production. By reclaiming our abilities to grow food ourselves, live in community with each other and by learning to communicate with the land we can become activists of change.

Where is it happening?

The introductory workshop is happening at “The Brehmweg Farm”, a two year old urban permaculture site in Hamburg Eimsbüttel. You can read more about it here:

This workshop is for you, if you:

  • are interested in knowing more about permaculture and growing your own produce in a sustainable way
  • want to exchange with other curious fellow humans about this topic
  • are open to having a group experience and learn together for the time being of this workshop.

This workshop includes:

  • a dive into the Ethics and Principals of permaculture
  • you will learn about zoning and stacking functions
  • a tour around the farm and learn through observation and interaction
  • hands-on experience
  • learning as a group

Structure and length (the plan):

9:45 - 10:00 - Meet & Greet with coffee and tea

10:00 - 12:45 - Intro and start 1) a circle, getting to know each other 2) getting in touch with Permaculture Ethics and Principles 3) observation exercise

13:00 - 14:00 - Lunch (Garden salad and lentil soup)

14:15 - 16:45 - Tour around with observation exchange, hands on experience and learning circle

17:00 - End

I am giving this workshop on the basis of a donation suggestion of 30,- € per participant
