We know these group rules won’t suit everybody, and that’s okay—there are many other groups where you might feel more at home. To keep things safe, fun, and positive, we have 8 simple rules for people attending our events. Over the past 9 years, we’ve removed 342 people (around 0.8%) for breaking them—so please read carefully! ❌ Not a dating group! – We’re here to make connections, not find soulmates. 📵 No phone numbers, please! – Feel free to swap LinkedIn if both parties are cool with it, but please don’t share or ask for phone numbers. Please don’t add people to WhatsApp or other groups. 🔞 Our events are only open to people aged 18 and older. 📢 Please do not advertise other events or groups. 🚗 We don't allow carpooling due to safety incidents/our public liability insurance not covering motor related accidents. 💰 **No sales pitches! – No selling, no MLMs, no pyramid schemes, no “life-changing mentorship” offers—let’s keep things scam-free.** By joining an event, you agree to follow these rules. Breaking them means removal from all our groups—no exceptions. Thank you! **Liability Waiver:** The organizer of this group cannot accept any liability for any loss, damage, injury, or accident to participants or their property at this event. By participating in this event, you're taking responsibility for your safety and well-being. We are a multi-disciplinary group of PhDs and academic staff who write together regularly and help one another to achieve our writing goals through supportive community, focus and a structure that works. We welcome anyone who wants to get some writing done in a collegial, supportive, encouraging environment. You don’t have to be from University of Melbourne (you don’t have to be from university at all!). We use the Pomodoro method, which means we write in timed intervals of silence, then chat and catch up for 5 mins and repeat the cycle. Arrive when you like, leave when you like. The goal is to keep our writing projects progressing and reduce the isolation that can be part of the academic and/or writing life. **Session Outline:** Welcome: 9.00-9.05 (5 mins) Pomodoro 1: 9.05-9.30 (25 mins). Break: 9.30-9.35 (5 mins) Pomodoro 2: 9.35-10.00 (25 mins) Break: 10.00-10.05 (25 mins) Pomodoro 3: 10.05-10.55 (50 mins) Break: 10.55-11.05 (10 mins) Pomodoro 4: 11.05-11.30 (25 mins) **A note about the format** We don’t host critiques or readings. These events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft, so no one will read or critique your writing. For our full event schedule, visit [https://shutupwrite.com](https://www.shutupwrite.com). **Other Important Details:** WiFi name/password: There is free public wifi available at the Melbourne Connect Superfloor (speak to the concierge for details). Integrating Bayesian stats with machine learning for time-since-event prediction
Integrating Bayesian stats with machine learning for time-since-event prediction
The MLAI Meetup is a community for AI researchers and professionals which hosts monthly talks on exciting research. Our format is: * 6:00 - 6:20: Socializing * 6:20 - 6:40: Announcements and AI news * 6:40 - 7:40: Talk(s) and Q&A * 7:40 - 8:00 Networking * 8:00: Head to the nearest pub for dinner Joint event with the Statistical Society of Australia! **Felicia Bongiovanni: "Inferring Time of Infection Based on Antibody Data Through a Hierarchical Bayesian Framework"** **Abstract:** Time-since-event prediction is a powerful tool to reconstruct histories of an event. It is commonly used in biomedicine to predict the beginning of tumor growth, to predict how long ago someone was infected with a disease, and even to predict the time since death for criminal investigations. Inference through Bayesian statistics and mathematical modelling can allow for time-since-event prediction and provide insight into the mechanisms driving an event. Machine learning is also used for time-since-event prediction but lacks the mechanistic insight Bayesian inference can provide. However, Bayesian inference, especially through Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, can be computationally expensive and time-consuming. In this talk, I describe a method for combining Bayesian inference with machine learning to improve computational efficiency while also maintaining mechanistic insight. This is demonstrated through the case study of estimating time-since-infection using antibody data. **Speaker bio:** Felicia is a PhD candidate at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research where she is conducting mathematical modelling of the immune response to understand more about infectious disease dynamics. In another life, she was a data analyst for the National Health Funding Body in Canberra through the Australia Bureau of Statistics Data Graduate Program.

Depression, Anxiety, Stress or Worry Concerns? Free Meetup Class
Depression, Anxiety, Stress or Worry Concerns? Free Meetup Class
Depression, Anxiety, Stress and worry are real concerns when we consider mental health. What causes the overwhelming sadness, the insomnia, the frightening panic attacks, the lack of energy, the mental fatigue and nervousness experienced by so many people. https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/8/1/0/600_459310256.jpeg Even a temporary state of stress can affect our ability to reason and result in actions or decisions that have disastrous long-term results. What is it that is holding you back and stops you from being YOU? Quality of life depends so much on mental health. People desire happiness but authentic happiness is often short-lived. Sometimes only a dim memory from childhood. Children are known for their ability to find joy in the simplest of things. What is it that affects a person's ability to experience true happiness? The Circumstances are the same, but the person no longer responds with positive emotions. Instead he or she may have a persistent gnawing anger, fear or sadness that depresses the consciousness and brings the person to reliance on pills or alcohol. The change may be gradual, occurring slowly over many years or it can be sudden, triggered by a traumatic stress such as the death of a loved one or a broken heart. The answer to these problems has been searched for for thousands of years but the problem appears to getting worse, with the rates of depression and suicide climbing alarmingly. Very few lives remain unaffected either directly or indirectly by these modern scourges. Could it be that the modern "treatments" and "solutions" to these problems are actually making things worse? That could only occur if the people developing and using these "treatments" did not know the true underlying reason for these problems. Today's meetup topic is based on Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard We will discuss the underlying reason for depression, anxiety, fear, nervousness, unhappiness, phobias and many other unwanted emotions and reactions as revealed and is fully explained in L. Ron Hubbard's book Dianetics. Life can become fun again, just like it was when you were a child. Hard to Believe? Well don't believe - find out for yourself and then you will KNOW. You have the opportunity to have all your questions answered. Nothing in Dianetics has to be true for you unless you have observed it and it is true according to your own observation. Today's meetup enables you to make your own observations. Make this go right for you, RSVP yes and ensure you attend this meetup. Know Yourself, Know Life! Tanja This Event is educational only and not to diagnose, treat or cure mental health issues. Attend our Meetup's at our scheduled Meetup times or visit Scientology at Ascot Vale at any time best suited to you. We are open 7 days each week. Alternatively visit our Network TV channel at www.scientology.tv You will be able to find out facts and why it is that people from all walks of life including many business owners use Scientology tools to improve. This group consist our of many religions including those with no faith (Atheist) All people of goodwill are welcomed.
