Khobar English Book Club — The Pearl (Session 2 of 2)
📚 Khobar English Book Club — Meetup #3
Every week at Khobar English Book Club, our members meet to discuss a piece of literature that we are all reading - the description for this week's meetup is below.
📖 Current Read: *The Pearl*, John Steinbeck
A fable of hope, greed, and human nature, The Pearl tells the story of a poor pearl diver whose life is forever changed by a single discovery. What begins as a dream of opportunity gradually becomes a powerful exploration of ambition, social inequality, and the price we pay for pursuing our desires.
Beautifully written and deceptively simple, Steinbeck's classic novella invites readers to reflect on wealth, destiny, family, and what it means to live a good life. A short book with big ideas.. and plenty to discuss.
🗓 Meetup Details
**Date:** Saturday, 04 July at 11:00am
**Reading Goal:** Before the meetup, please read the second half of the novella (Chapters 4, 5, and 6)
**Location:** SA'AH Cafe
🔍 Where to Find the Book
The novella is widely available online as a PDF and can also be ordered online in physical format. You may also find copies at Jarir Bookstore.
💬 What to Expect
This is not a super structured event, but generally we’ll chat about:
• the book — parts of the story/ideas/characters/writing that we found interesting, meaningful, funny, thought-provoking etc. Also, aspects of the book that maybe we didn't like!
• books, literature, reading in general.
If you feel inclined, you can bring:
• specific passages you liked
• questions or discussion prompts
• suggestions for the next book
🤝 A Quick Note on RSVP
These events are **free and informa**l, but **spots are limited**
In the spirit of community and courtesy, if you’ve clicked "Going" but can’t make it anymore, please switch to "Not Going" so someone else can take your spot.

Pop-up Book Club 5: Rabbit, Run by John Updike
Let’s meet and discuss John Updike's Rabbit, Run, the first in his series of four novels following the life, hopes, and disappointments of former local basketball star, Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, as he fitfully confronts and evades adulthood.
Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One Café, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator.
Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking!
• What we'll do
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros.
10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour.
11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing.
OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you!
• What to bring
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible.
See you at The Café on Saturday!
