The purpose of this Speaker - Storyteller - Presenter Open Mic/Rehearsal Session, is to provide a safe environment for aspiring and emerging speakers, storytellers and presenters to sharpen their skills, grow their confidence and make some great connections and partnerships. This session: General information: Sue Schneider will guide you through this meditative drawing art form. Step-by-step, you will learn the basic process for creating a small, abstract design using repetitive pattern skills. Zentangle is easy, relaxing and stress-free; perfect for "these challenging times". FIRST-TIMERS: If you are brand new to Zentangle, I'm happy to send you my Beginner's Guide, that will fill you in on background, basic techniques and some starter patterns. You can work in any medium, be a beginner, intermediate or advanced artist, start or finish works in progress, or you can just hang out and observe artists at work in their own environments. Spend a few minutes beforehand getting set up, brewing coffee or tea and gathering your supplies. It should be an enjoyable experience with no pressure to perform; I can relate to performance anxiety because I have a terminal case of it. We can show each other what we are working on and talk about our process; or we can just quietly work and feel the presence of each other in our individual acts of creation. The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills.
