A Conversation with Architects and Certified Passive House Designers
Buck Moorhead, David White, and Jeremy Shannon
as they discuss how this revolutionary building technique applies to new and retrofit buildings, including Jeremy's Brooklyn brownstone projects.
"Passive House"––a new way of building and retrofitting buildings--reduces energy for heating and cooling by 80-90%. Some Passive Houses are so energy efficient they require neither a boiler nor air conditioning. Although virtually unknown here in the US, this design and construction strategy is becoming a model standard in Europe. Through meticulous design, Passive House buildings eliminate wasteful leaks—energy that escapes through conventional walls and windows––to near zero levels. Yet the buildings are not stuffy, have proper ventilation and enhance human comfort. Join us, as we explore these exciting energy-saving strategies, and get a preview of the Passive House projects currently underway in NYC.
