What we’re about
Here's the deal, I like big books and I cannot lie. I like small books too. No book judgement. But, I'd like to explore books by dead authors - exclusively.
Readers out there! Hear me now!
Let's get together on a dedicated night of the week for dinner or drinks, or both, but mostly to talk books, life, be out and about, and meet cool people doing cool things.
This group is for you if you like books and to discuss books from dead authors and the influence of those authors or stories in the current world, enjoy meeting people from all walks of life, reading books that stretch or challenge you from time to time, and sip easily on wine or cocktails or beer (or any types of beverages, really) whilst discussing books and chatting with people.
This group is not for you if you are closed off to new experiences or people or desire a book discussion held in someone's home with a potluck. Being out and about means there will be background noise for our discussions!
Logistics: 2nd Thursday of the month, roughly 7:30 - 9:00 pm, trying out new places around PDX. Discussions range from the book to applicable current landscapes, crossovers, personal experiences, and insights. Open mind and diplomacy is a must. We will read the whole book for each event and discussions will be open ended with discussion questions at the ready to keep us going.

See all- August Book Club - I Who Have Never Known Men @ TBDPortland, Portland, OR
Come read & drink with us! The location will be posted closer to the event.
For August, we are reading I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman.
"A young woman is kept in a cage underground with thirty-nine other females, guarded by armed men who never speak; her crimes unremembered... if indeed there were crimes.
The youngest of forty—a child with no name and no past—she survives for some purpose long forgotten in a world ravaged and wasted. In this reality where intimacy is forbidden—in the unrelenting sameness of the artificial days and nights—she knows nothing of books and time, of needs and feelings.
Then everything changes... and nothing changes.
A young woman who has never known men—a child who knows of no history before the bars and restraints—must now reinvent herself, piece by piece, in a place she has never been... and in the face of the most challenging and terrifying of unknowns: freedom."
As a reminder, this meetup's intentions are to be out and about in the city, exploring new places for drinks and discussions about books. Will post a location ASAP. Taking recommendations for locations if you have one in mind!
