Mortality Movies at Home: Stranger Than Fiction

We're back to showing Mortality Movies with Stranger Than Fiction (2006, PG-13, 1 h 53 min). Will Ferrell plays Harold Crick, a meticulous solitary IRS auditor whose life runs on routines, numbers, and predictability. One morning, he begins hearing a calm, omniscient narrator describing his every move, including his thoughts and habits. At first, Harold fears he is losing his mind. Then the narration ominously declares that his death is imminent.

Harold soon discovers the unthinkable: He is a fictional character in a novel being written by Karen Eiffel, an acclaimed author famous for killing off her protagonists. Faced with the certainty of his own narrative death, Harold is forced to confront a question he has long avoided: How should one live when time is limited?

Stars also include Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Dustin Hoffman.
