What we’re about
## Nice To Meet You! We're Debate London
Join us and we will teach you how to speak in public, think strategically, and deal with conflict. We will then give you a platform to lead by example in our monthly debates, that are free to attend and open to all, so you can show those in search of a more civil way to examine our differences what it really means to be a great debater.
We provide 2 types of events:
Public Speaking and Debate Training workshops - Instead of inviting guest speakers to sit on our debate panels, we train our members to defend the competing perspectives shaping the debate in their own words and develop the skills that allow our members to tackle any topic and find the arguments for any side.
Public debates - Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month we debate issues that divide public opinion, which this year ranged from inducting Ukraine into NATO and deposing Boris Johnson to falling UK birth rates and fake news. Topics are expressed not as a question, but as a proposal that the audience must vote to accept or reject after hearing all the arguments.

Intro To Debating - Debate Workshop
The Windsor Castle Pub (Victoria), 23 Francis St, Victoria, SW1P 1EQ, GB2 attendees from 2 groupsLooking at how debates work, when they're most appropriate, and where to start if you are preparing to speak in one for the first time.
This workshop will provide an overview of the 3Ps - philosophy, position, presentation - and some basic techniques for combining them to build a case in defence of your position.
The day will begin with a masterclass, in which you will be broken up into small groups to work on a series of exercises, so you can get comfortable speaking in front of each other before you are asked to speak in front of the rest of the room. No one will be required to speak in front of the room until they feel ready to do so.
After lunch will be dedicated to a mock debate, which will serve as a rehearsal for the upcoming public debate on the same topic. Members can volunteer to be on the panel for these debates a week in advance when the topic is announced, but everyone can take part by questioning the speakers, making speeches of their own, and offering feedback.
All participants will receive a paper handout on arrival. All you will need to bring with you is something to write with.

What To Expect
3v3 panel debate where our members explore the strongest arguments for a given topic.
A debate should tell the audience what they need to know and not just what the speakers think. If you feel the same way, then we want to meet you.
Debate London is the year-round series of free public debates held across London. The series is run by Debate London, a social enterprise that helps its members to advance their personal and professional development by teaching them how to debate.
All of our speakers are club members who have agreed to defend a particular perspective the audience need to hear, rather than just share their own personal opinion. After presenting the point of view assigned to them, the audience are then given the floor to cross-examine them and share their own position.
The only time we hear what the speakers really think is at the end of the debate when they tell us where they really stand and whether this changed at all while learning how to defend the perspective assigned to them.7 attendees from this group - Network event

Has Banning “Dangerous” Dogs worked? - Ealing Debate
The Drayton Court, 2 The Avenue West Ealing W13 8PH, London, GB8 attendees from 2 groupsThis House Regrets The Banning of “Dangerous” Dog Breeds in the UK
Why Are We Having This Debate
The UK's approach to dog breeds which attract the wrong attention has been to ban them outright. This has been most notable with the historically popular Pitbull and now in modern times with the XL Bully breed ban. Breed banning has long been opposed by the RSPCA who have always maintained that breed banning unfairly punishes "good" dog owners and has proven ineffective in protecting the public from dog related incidents.
