Join us for a fun and friendly Mah Jongg game with the-Downtown Decatur Adult Co-ed 40+ Meetup, American Mahjong Social Club! Whether you're a seasoned player or just curious about this classic game, all skill levels are welcome. Connect with members of the 40+community in Decatur while enjoying a game that blends strategy, skill, and a bit of luck. Mah Jongg is a great way to socialize, relax, and challenge your mind.
Don't worry if you're new to the game - our group is welcoming and happy to help newcomers. (See Lesson offering under events) Bring your tiles and racks, or simply come to learn and observe. We will have a table for beginners and more for Intermediate, advanced players.
The Venue is in Downtown Decatur will be published each week. We have 3 options of Venues. We have plenty of room for lunch and or our Friday Lunch and Play at Cafe Lily in Decatur. We have 6 tables for 24 players and chairs for newbies that want to watch.
We're considering after talking to the group the first weeks more sessions per week.
Possibly Mondays 430pm to 630PM, or 6 to 8P. Or Sundays 2 to 4PM. Let us know. your thoughts. Or be a Host of a Downtown Decatur event, talk to the Organization team. At this time we meet Friday's, see below.
Fridays with Lunch at Cafe Lily. 1130 Meet for lunch, Play at 1245ish to 3P max. We order our lunch Thursdays by 1130 so that it is ready at 1145A on Friday to expedite for more time for play.
Our First Beginner Series of Lessons will be held on Wednesdays from 530P to 6P social/cocktails, 6 to 8 pm lessons on April 23, April 30, May 7, and May 14th at Cafe Lily, see the events page.
Please order your 2025 OFFICIAL Mahjong card, they starting shipping this this week... https://www.nationalmahjonggleague.org/store.aspx#
they are $14. or $15 for Large type. Only order from the National Org, as many bootlegged cards out on amazon, Walmart and other places. New cards come out every March around the 25th, which keeps the game interesting. We do have about 8 cards extra from our order, just ask.
We will use the 2024/0r 2025 Cards, as most people don't have the new cards and corrected cards are being sent out later in the month. Bring you 2024 card or your new one. (we have extra's you can borrow until your card comes). First meet up was April 11th, 2025 and we had 11 players of which 6 were beginners, but we are growing.

We are asking members to pay your annual membership fee of $10, please use My Zelle. Barbara Rowland 404-314-9092 barb@barbrowland.com. or my Venmo. @barbara-rowland-0 (404-314-9092) . Instead of the PayPal meet up which is automatically set up. They charge us $2.25 per $10 charge. The dues are to offset our yearly Meet up Organization fee, supplies, expenses, and a small reserve fund. You can come one time for free to check us out, and if you bring guest it is $5.00 each event.

Hello Downtown Decatur MahJong Social Club Members,

We are excited to announce that we'll be hosting beginner Mahjong lessons at Cafe Lily, taught by Laura Downs and Whitney Brown, who are fantastic instructors Laura and Whitney were the ones who got me started! Limited to 12 Students from this group.
They are offering a special deal for our Decatur Mahjong beginners:
* $50 for 4 - 2-hour lessons. (typically its $110 for 2-hours lesson )
* $15 for the 2025 card (which Laura and Whitney have ordered in bulk)
***These discounted lessons are for Members only, and guests of members if slots are available 2 days prior to the session. Talk to the Organizers with questions or requests for guests.
These lessons will take your Mahjong skills to the next level, with an interesting curriculum covering everything from learning the tiles and the basics of correct protocol for playing by the rules, to tips on the best hands for beginners and reading the card, as well as strategies. Laura and Whitney will also supervise play and be available to answer your questions as they arise.

You can have dinner at 5pm in the restaurant or we can have small plates and appetizers, wine beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks, great desserts in our private room. Cafe Lily has given us the room for free requesting everyone spend at least $20 and tip your servers.

Additional free parking at 205 Swanton Way (it says no parking but this property is about to break ground for a hotel, and Cafe Lily employees park in this lot.
