Decatur Grief Walk
Details
Decatur Grief Walks is a supportive group of normal everyday people who believe in and practice sharing important and difficult things with each other. This is not, however, group therapy or counseling.
Bring good walking shoes and some water. We walk casually for 45-60 minutes around Decatur, about 1-2 miles.
There is usually no set agenda or discussion topic, though sometimes we use a prompt to get us started. Then we walk and talk.
If it is your first meeting, perhaps just introduce yourself to others and tell us about who or what you are grieving.
A few basic guidelines that help us support each other effectively:
- Please keep our discussions confidential
- We are here to support each other. Active listening is a great way to show that support. We are not here to give advice, rescue, or fix problems.
- If there is a topic you don’t feel comfortable talking about, feel free to say you don’t feel comfortable talking about it.
- Feel free to exchange contact information and reach out to each other as you need support
- Tears are welcome. Talking about grief brings up all kinds of memories and strong emotions.
