[Cross-Post] Does Ignorance = Innocence? (online discussion)

Details

**This is a cross-post event from the Think & Drink group**

Does Ignorance = Innocence? We often excuse or reduce blame on someone who did something wrong if we learn that they did not realize what they were doing. Even Jesus said while being crucified, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34).

Another reference in the bible that ties in with this question is the "Tree of Knowledge", which is the forbidden tree to eat from in the Garden of Eden in Genesis. Aside from any literal interpretation, is the theme of this story that obtaining knowledge robs us of our ignorance? Is it better to be ignorant for the sake of protecting our innocence? Should we not consider the mindset of the individual who commits a crime, and focus only on the action?

Or to stay in the theological realm of this topic, can someone with zero knowledge of God or the "correct religion" be saved? Or is certain knowledge required? Babies have zero knowledge yet most of us assume they are automatically saved. Is this an example of ignorance = innocence?
What are your thoughts? All views and backgrounds welcome! Come join us for a fun discussion. We'll lead with this topic but can venture off into any direction.

Rule of etiquette: The goal is to have a productive free-flowing discussion, while also giving everyone a fair chance to participate accordingly. If you have any trouble getting a word in, please use the "Raise Hand" feature. When a hand is raised I will set a 3:00 timer for turns. When no hands are up we continue with a free flow dialog with no timer. No one is obligated to speak if they do not want. Respect for others is a must (or at least please try haha). We're all human.

Hope you can join us!
