[Cross Post] The Cure For Atheism

Details

(This is a cross-posted event from the "Think and Drink" meetup https://www.meetup.com/thinkanddrink/events/308259689 )

If you are an atheist then yes I am poking you with a stick. All in good fun though, I'm sure in you'd love to see a cure for religion. So let's talk about it!

So what is the cure? I might have to wait until the patent is secured before sharing the full answer, but I'll start with a few ideas that can use some vetting:

Atheism is the lack of belief in any God or gods. It does not matter how loosely you define God; any definition will be rejected. But I'll define it anyway. A "God" is simply a "Higher Power".

To believe in a higher power is to believe in a type of hierarchy. Some are above others. If you eat meat but not other humans, then you would presume humans are above other animals. If you can own animals as property but not other humans, then you would presume humans are above other animals. If nothing is above humans, this would make humans the highest power, which would = Theism. Specifically, secular humanism which is indeed a religion.

An attempt to find reason and purpose in our world is essential for a fulfilling life. Shouldn't there be a reason to value your fellow human, or do you just do it without bothering to thinking about it? To be without reason is to be unreasonable. I wish for all of my atheist friends to attempt at reasoning out why we live in a world that experiences morals, rights, justice, choice, responsibility and love. This is why my prompt begs for a cure.

(I am not saying atheists do not share these things; I'm simply saying they don't have a reason why they do. And Evolution is not a "why" but only a "how")

What are your thoughts? If you think we are in need of a cure for religion I would love to hear that as well. All views and backgrounds welcome! Come join us for a fun discussion. We'll lead with this topic but can venture off into any direction.

Rule of etiquette: The goal is to have a productive free-flowing discussion, while also giving everyone a fair chance to participate accordingly. If you have any trouble getting a word in, please use the "Raise Hand" feature. When a hand is raised I will set a 3:00 timer for turns. When no hands are up we continue with a free flow dialog with no timer. No one is obligated to speak if they do not want. Respect for others is a must (or at least please try haha). We're all human.

Hope you can join us!
