Political Assassinations & Violence: Kirk, Trump, Thompson

Details

“When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say.” -Tyrion Lannister

I rarely do meeting topics on recent events but the assassinations of Charlie Kirk, Brian Thompson, and the attempted assassination of Trump had all happened in a such short timeframe which begs the question why are these events happening?

  • Can Political Violence Ever Be Justified?
  • Why do you think Charlie Kirk was assassinated? (How is related to Trump and Thompson?)
  • Can speech be considered violence?
  • Which political party (if it's even a party thing) is responsible for the majority of political assassinations in the United States?
  • What ever happened to the ideals of a tolerant, civil, and moralistic country?
  • Do these assassination and attempts exhibit something wrong deeper in this country?
  • Is the United States headed toward even more political turmoil?

Share your thoughts on why political violence happens, what causes them, and what are the legacies?

Guidelines:

  • Hand raises are required.
  • There will be a 3 minute timer for every person. However, in this group, I do allow a brief back and fourth interjection from others if it's something that's related to the person who was just speaking. This is a way to prevent the group from feeling too "robotic" in style and get your pressing question asked to the speaker and get the answer right away without waiting all the way back to your turn again.
  • Be authentic & civil!
  • Please refrain from using Ad Hominem (personal) attacks. Instead, please attack the points from others. Severe Ad Hominem such as racist behavior will result in being removed from the meeting.
  • Zoom link will be posted 15 minutes before the meeting. (Refresh page 15 min before start time)
