Should We Uphold Gender Roles?

**The posted start time is for anyone on the East Coast or for those who like to come on earlier. I will be coming on 3 hours later (7:30pm PST) to kick things off officially but the room will be open for anyone wanting to come on earlier.**

Q: “What is a trans-woman?”
A: “A trans-woman is a biological male who identifies as a woman.”
Q: “And what is a woman?”
A: “A woman is person who expresses or aligns with the traits and behaviors that are typically attributed to females”

If the above answers are correct, this requires a need for gender roles to exist, otherwise the trans-person no longer exists! There are general traits and appearances that we expect to see in “women”, and there are different general traits and appearances that we expect in “men”. Should we seek to continuing distinguishing these different expectations between the two genders? Should We Uphold Gender Roles?

Can a man do anything a woman can do? Can a woman do anything a man can do? Should they? Do gender roles allow room for tomboys and effeminate men? Can anyone be whatever they want or should people of certain genders to be encouraged to specialize in things best suited for their gender? Are some jobs better suited for men and some jobs better suited for women? Can a mother be the exact same type of parent as a father?

Perhaps when we say “expect”, we are not pressuring people to live a certain way, but it is a statistical norm that we should be willing to accept?

Rule Of Etiquette: The goal is to have a productive free-flowing discussion, while also giving everyone a fair chance to participate accordingly. When it is not a free for all, turns will be managed with a 3-minute timer going to hands raised, and Green Checks for people wanting to make a quick point or ask a question between turns. We will only do 2 Green checks at a time between turns, and each Green check only gets 1 minute. If a person's turn goes over 3 minutes we will not do any green checks. If the turn goes all the way up to 4 minutes they will get a hard mute so we can keep the flow going. These rules will arbitrarily fluctuate with certain people as I am not ashamed to play favorites and give more time to the people have proven to be respectful and mindful of their time.
