You don't have to buy dinner to attend. Have a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, a beer or just some water -- but come! RSVP early as the group reservation is limited to 25 (if you find yourself on the waitlist, come anyway. We have always had seats available at the table).

Topic: Fun

Fun. Defined as providing entertainment, amusement, or enjoyment. From an early age, many of us pursue fun with an enthusiasm that seems almost instinctive. Play and enjoyment have been part of individual and social life for millennia. And yet, somewhere along the way, many of us begin setting aside the pursuit of fun for more “adult” things. Responsibilities matter, but enjoyment doesn't necessarily stop mattering simply because we have responsibilities. So why can fun begin to feel frivolous, indulgent, or like something we have to earn?

Fun. What is it? What do we get out of it? Why do so many people feel the need to justify it? Is fun the same thing as pleasure? Why is competition fun for some and awful for others? Does fun need to accomplish anything to be worthwhile? Can you deliberately create fun? Is trying too hard to have fun the perfect way to destroy it? There are plenty of directions to take in maturely contemplating the idea of fun.

Join us as we seriously consider the lighter side of life—fun, play, pleasure, and human enjoyment—and what our pursuit of them might reveal about ourselves and the lives we choose to build.
