We will explore the three main attributes of oil color. This class will be a wonderful experience for students at any skill level. While color can be extremely complicated, it’s also one of the basics and artists at all skill levels, working with varied media apply these principles.
Day 1: Value – All Its Nuances
We’ll create two monochromatic paintings using different techniques. Learn how value drives realism and how adjusting value relationships can strengthen your artwork—even when it means altering your reference.

Day 2: Hue – Adding Life to a Scene
We’ll explore hue and color theory, including color harmonies and the creative use of discord. You’ll learn how to “push” color choices for more vibrant, expressive realism.

Day 3: Chroma – Boldness and Subtlety
Discover how saturation can shape mood, direct focus, and even define your artistic brand. You’ll apply what you’ve learned about value, hue, and chroma to create eye-catching, expressive art.
