The Rise of AI: Opportunities, Risks, and Regulation in the EU #34

Details
Summary:
AI, as a powerful general-purpose technology, has transformed the way we live and work. However, its rise also poses unique legal and ethical challenges that need to be addressed. To tackle some of these challenges, the European Commission has been working for the past six years to develop a robust ethical and regulatory framework for Responsible AI. From AI HLEG’s Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI to the Proposal of the AIA and the Proposal of the AI Liability Directive, in the upcoming Deep Learning Sessions in Portugal, Magda Cocco (Partner at VdA), Iakovina Kindylidi (Senior Associate at VdA), and André Martins (Head of Research at Unbabel and Associate Professor at IST) will explore, in an interactive way, the main legal and ethical challenges of machine learning and the hurdles policymakers face in ensuring the ethical and transparent use of AI. Moreover, Magda, Iakovina, and André will discuss the current regulatory developments in the EU towards Responsible AI and their potential impact on businesses that develop or use AI. This presentation will provide valuable insights into the latest developments in AI governance and help attendees gain a deeper understanding of the potential ways to ensure compliant AI solutions.
