Hack My Car: Hands-on Car Hacking Event & After Party

Hey guys,
This mini (30 person limit & pre-screening) meet-up is a continuation regarding my July talk on Car Hacking series.
I am formally inviting you to come spend an evening with me and other car/tech security professionals in Mississauga to hack into my 2014 VW Golf TDI. Sounds fun right?
Why are we hacking my car?
Being a daily driver who owns a VW and also works in the cyber security industry (pen-testing) I have a right to know exactly how safe & secure my property is. Just like a company can hire a pentester to test their information/network security, I too deserve to understand my vulnerabilities and work towards fixing them, for myself, my friends and my family.
With all the recent news about car hacking being a hot topic these days I wanted to test the legitimacy of these claims, promote awareness, and work towards technical solutions at the consumer level.
What we will be investigating:
Some 100 Million cars made by Volkswagen are vulnerable to a key cloning attack that could allow thieves to unlock the doors of most popular cars remotely through a wireless signal, according to new research.
We will be conducting a peer-review of the following white paper: https://www.usenix.org/system/files/conference/usenixsecurity16/sec16_paper_garcia.pdf
We will also be trying to replicate the findings on my own 2014 VW TDI Golf. All our findings will be securely organized and documented by me.
The Game Plan:
We'll setup a table and a few folding chairs for this event however if you can bring a lawn chair for yourself and possibly another for a new friend that would be greatly appreciated.
As highly requested, I'll be kick-off the event by doing a quick recap about my last Car Hacking presentation during the July DEFCON Toronto event hosted at TunnelBear.
I will then be diving deeper into the research findings uncovered by the "Lock It and Still Lose It – On the (In)Security of Automotive Remote Keyless Entry Systems" white paper.
Finally I'll be bringing some of my equipment for all of us to play with on my car.

The After Party (9pm)
Once the event is over we should all go over to Moxies to grab a drink and some good food to network a bit more and talk about our (in)secure my VW is.
