Hey hackers! Who is excited for the next DEFCON Toronto Meet-up!!? The group for hackers, cyber security professionals, and enthusiasts.

This May meet-up will be a special one, we're dedicating this meet-up to Women who Hack! Honouring women in the community and working to support this generation in being and becoming leaders and role models in the infosec industry.

On May 24th join us for some exciting talks from our all female speaker line-up on cyber security talks, a 1hr hacking competition, networking and free beverages!

Enhancing Threat Intelligence - Cheryl Biswas

Summary:

Cheryl Biswas began her IT career with CP Rail’s helpdesk over 20 years ago, with further roles in vendor management and change management. Her previous position was with JIG Technologies as an InfoSec Researcher/Analyst, where she initiated the security role within JIG, did weekly threat intel updates, and advised her team and clients on security matters. She recently joined KPMG Canada as a Cyber Security Consultant, Threat Intel. Cheryl builds bridges to connect people within Information Security, and to connect end users. She actively shares her passion for learning and security by blogging, speaking at conferences and on Twitter.

Women who Hack Panel Discussion - Laura Payne

Women who hack! And other great things we do for Information Security.Demand for information security professionals is fast outpacing the supply, but only 10% of technical information security positions are held by women. That means there’s a huge opportunity in front of us to recruit from a relatively under-represented market – women like you, who are smart, talented and technology-oriented! Our panel of female information security professionals is here to spread the word about why working in this field is a great option and that you don’t have to be a “super-hacker” to get started. They will share their experiences, their passion for what they do, and the challenges and opportunities of working in this field.

Panel Host:

Laura Payne is a Senior Information Security Advisor at the Bank of Montreal. She has over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry covering a variety of roles in IT operations and information security. Laura holds a degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering in the community, and wilderness camping.

Kimberly Crawley

Kim Crawley spent years working in general tier two consumer tech support, most of which as a representative of Windstream, a secondary American ISP. Malware-related tickets intrigued her, and her knowledge grew from fixing malware problems on thousands of client PCs. Her curiosity led her to research malware as a hobby, which grew into an interest in all things information security related. By 2011, she was already ghostwriting study material for the InfoSec Institute’s CISSP and CEH certification exam preparation programs. Ever since, she’s contributed articles on a variety of information security topics to CIO, CSO, Computerworld, SC Magazine, and 2600 Magazine.Her first solo developed PC game, Hackers Versus Banksters, had a successful Kickstarter and was featured at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in May 2016. This October, she gave her first talk at an infosec convention, a penetration testing presentation at BSides Toronto. She now writes for Tripwire, Alienvault, and CCSI's corporate blogs.

Sarah Qureshi

Sarah is a senior IT security professional with over 15 years of extensive experience in software development, digital forensics, policy creation, and privacy. Sarah has assisted clients in both public and private sectors including: nuclear energy, semiconductor technologies, Canadian crown corporations, regional police forces, school boards, banking and telecommunication industries.

Sarah continues to participate in panel discussions and delivers seminars on diversity in the InfoSec industry at local universities and colleges

Lisa Belanger

Lisa is a Detective for the Toronto Police Services. Lisa specializes in Online Investigations and Intelligence Services. She has been with the Toronto Police Services for 17 years.
