What we're about

NOTE: Defcon 512 is on a hiatus since the previous organizer has departed. We encourage everyone to join the community at Austin 2600 (http://meetup.com/atx-2600) while we wait for someone to step up as organizer of this group.

The is the local, Austin chapter of the Defcon hacking conference. Started in 1993, Defcon (a.k.a. DEFCON or DEF CON) is one of the world's largest annual computer hacker conventions, held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada. Attendees include computer security professionals, journalists, lawyers, federal government employees, security researchers and hackers with a general interest in code, computer architecture, phone phreaking, hardware mods and anything else that can be "hacked."

The Defcon 512 chapter is a chance for like-minded people in and around downtown Austin to gather, drink, listen to Defcon-style presentations and then, in true Defcon fashion, head out into the night in search of mischief.
