Talk: Peering Through the Red Star
In the 21st Century, a nation’s connectivity is synonymous with progress. For North Korea, or by their preferred name; The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). However, the digital realm isn’t a gateway to the world but a meticulously constructed fortress of control. North Korea’s computer and networking abilities are not defined by advancement, but by their isolation. By examining the outdated technology that forms its base, the heavily controlled national intranet, and the external vulnerabilities that offer us a glimpse inside, we can see how North Korea’s digital strategy perfectly mirrors its political reality: a system built not on connection, but on absolute control.
