Trick or Treat Listening Session: Have MLS changes created confusion or opportunity to save?

Tomorrow, Halloween, marks the 1st anniversary of a $5.35 BILLION dollar verdict in Kansas City, MO for price fixing on real estate commissions. It was the first of 20+ class action lawsuits against what critics call an informal real estate cartel (#RECartel) for anti-competitive practices. One is here in Massachusetts and the US Dept of Justice's Statement of Interest documents their goal:

"return BILLIONS of dollars to the American people."

Nearly 11 weeks in MLS changes, critics are questioning how much money homebuyers & sellers are saving by reforms designed to create a more transparent, competitive marketplace. The original goals were clear:

#Save_10K per transaction (Pres. Biden 3/24/24)
#Save_30B year across US (multiples sources)

If you are househunting or recently bought a home, we're eager to hear what your experience has been in the market across Massachusetts. The National Association of Realtors will be hosting their annual convention in Boston this year (11/4-10/24), and the industry is swirling with controversy. We're eager to hear directly from consumers.

LISTING SESSIONS ON DEMAND over the next 2 weeks. Would you like to do that in a roundtable discussion, a whiteboard session at Harvard's i-Lab or one-on-one over coffee (or beer), zoom or phone? Use the discussion thread below to respond or email realestatecafe@gmail.com
