Ode to India's Diversity: A Republic Day Special Walk to Mehrauli Village
Details
What is India? The homeland of perhaps the most diverse communities...The cradle of ancient civilizations, languages, cultures & religions... The land of Temples and Mosques, Dargahs and Gurudwaras, and of a lively culture that is still immersed in age old traditions of reverence and community living....
And nowhere do you see this more than in Delhi's oldest extant village of Mehrauli. Here you will find Delhi's oldest temple, it's first Sufi Shrine & a historic Gurudwara resonating tales of valour. Its rich history and heritage reflect the long-standing struggle against colonial rule.
On this Republic Day, let’s embark on a treasure hunt of stories, in the maze of narrow winding alleys of the oldest continuously inhabited area of Delhi celebrating India's diversity and its resilience on this guided walk in this microcosm of India!! Visit a lesser-known Baoli (Step-well) that is an epitome of faith and belief.
Listen to the tale of invocations of a queen leaving a legacy of unity and harmony… Visit myriad places of cultural importance from Temple to Church & Mosque to Gurudwara, all hidden in the nooks of this legendary village as we explore what it means to be an Indian. But the first piece of business is what is forever first on our minds - FOOD! So be sure of a scrumptious breakfast from a place as old as independent India to start our Sun-Funday!
The story-telling sessions will be done in English and some bits of Urdu/Hindi also.
