What we’re about

Whether you are visiting Delphi Greece for a day or two - or living in the area - you are welcome to come along to James' informal philosophy talks. (Note: For some reason meetup location searches uses Delfoí not the more widely used Delphi.)

This is a sister meetup group to James' larger philosophy group in Athens, where he announces his talks in the Athens area.

The Delphi talks are deliberately informal - using cafe/restaurant settings, or in inspiring locations.

The 'on-line' talks (started during the Coronavirus lockdown in Greece) will also continue over the winter months since they have allowed people from further afield to hear some of the presentations.

Both James' Athens and Delphi meetup groups are simply a convenient way for James to announce when philosophy talks are happening. (James is the usual host and speaker although guest speakers are arranged from time to time)

Please note - you do not need to 'join' this Delphi philosophy group in order to attend one of the talks offered. There is no 'signing up' or anything like that necessary. Simply click 'attend' on the meetup page and come along as a guest attendee. This meetup is simply a way of letting people know when a talk has been arranged - and what it is about - so people can attend if they wish.

Although the Athens meetup group now has a large membership (600+ members), for any particular talk in Athens or Delphi a usual audience size is 5 to 10 people.

Talks are in English (unless otherwise stated) and straightforward English is used - so feel confident attending even if English is not your mother tongue.

No previous formal or academic study of philosophy is needed to come along and enjoy the talks: everyone over 18 years old is welcome. (At the same time, more experienced philosophers are also welcome.)

What This Philosophy Meetup Group is About:

We will investigate some of the fundamental ideas of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle in order to help us all make better and more informed LIFE CHOICES today. The group maintains that philosophy should be regarded for the most part as a 'practical' pursuit related to how we live our lives, and not just an intellectual or academic subject which only discusses abstract or abstruse ideas. Philosophical discussion and contemplation should be seen as a prelude to making positive decisions in our own personal lives - and the lives of the communities and cities we live in.

Regular short programs of talks (and walks with talk) will be offered at various times of the year.

Come and see how it is.
