HELLO Ward 2 Democrats!!! I am Susana Barañano. I am running for the position of Chair of the Ward 2 Democrats. I am asking for your vote.
I have been a member of this Ward 2 Democrats since the 1980s. I was elected as Precinct Captain in Ward 2 Democrats. I served as Ward 2 Democrats’ Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary and Program Chair. While in these positions, I have increased membership by 50 Democrats.

I was elected in 2020 as Ward 2 Committeewoman, representing Ward 2 at DC Democratic Party. I was elected as Hillary Delegate for the 2020 election. I am a member of the Metropolitan Women’s Democratic Club and the DC Federation of Democratic Women, serving as 2nd Vice President.

I bring experience and knowledge of Ward 2 Democrats, Ward 2 residents and our issues. All this is necessary so we don’t “re-invent the wheel”, by offering options that previously have been introduced and rejected by Ward 2 Residents.

I am ready to meet the challenges we face as Ward 2 Democrats. We have low voter registration and education. We have one of the lowest voter turnout and voter participation in DC, along with Ward 7 and Ward 8. However, we share the same issues and challenges that are found throughout all the Wards: Business slumps. Parking issues. Development issues.

I want to increase the participation, cooperation and coordination of our Ward 2 Democrats with other partners to offer appropriate actions and solutions to these civic interests and welfare. I am already working with some of these partners.

I am an advocate for good paying jobs and opportunities for all. I support pay equity, affordable housing, safe streets and neighborhoods. I want to improve the quality of life for Ward 2 Democrats.

I am passionate for DC Statehood. One of my first campaigns was for DC Shadow Representative. Statehood is personal for me. I am an identical twin. My sister has full representation in Congress – that is 2 Senators and several Representatives. While I have none of those. We both share the same family experiences. We both have worked, paid taxes and contributed to the community.
