Practical Workshop: loosening up your back, hips and pelvis

Over the past two years, I’ve been dealing with a stubborn hip injury. At one point, it got so bad I could barely walk. The cause? A miscarriage, hormones, or maybe an old hip issue from the past? Who knows?

The orthopedic doctor told me, “Just start cycling.” Even with the physiotherapist, we were mostly in the dark—and things only got worse.

But with my background as a former top-level athlete and my love for sports, I didn’t give up. I started a deep search for the root cause—and more importantly, the solution—to my problem.

Through a combination of physio, lots of yoga, and light strength training, I found that solution. In fact, I’m now back to doing the sports I love: surfing, sailing, and kitesurfing!

I’m not claiming to have a cure for all hip or pelvic issues—definitely not.
But I do believe there’s a missing link in how we approach these kinds of injuries. Especially for women (and men) who suffer from hip, pelvic, or lower back discomfort. I meet many of them in my surf classes.

Many medical specialists focus only on isolated parts of the body (the knee, the hip, etc.) and forget to look at the full chain—the full body—and the underlying cause of the issues.

And just as important: How do you deal with your injury on a daily basis?

  • What can you do to reduce stress—and with that, the muscle tension and nervous system overload in your body?
  • Which yoga poses can help relieve tightness in your hips, psoas, and back?
  • Are there gentle strength exercises to help you rebuild stability?

On Saturday, July 26, I’m hosting a yoga workshop specifically focused on the hips, pelvis, and lower back.

You’ll get:
• A short theory session about how stress affects your nervous system and muscles
• Breathing exercises to help reduce stress and tension
• Practical yoga exercises to release the hips, lower back, and iliopsoas
• Tips to (gently!) strengthen your hips and back
• A cozy afternoon at the beach
