DEEP DIVE: Spike Lee Part 1 - Tuesday, July 8 - 6:00pm - Edgewater Public Market

Details

This is a "watch on your own, discuss in person event". Please join me to discuss three films from Spike Lee.

I'm really excited for Spike's upcoming Highest 2 Lowest. Let's dive into his filmography. As of now, I plan on doing a total of three deep dives of his work. This is Part 1.

It was VERY hard to pick what to start with. After much deliberation this is what I've come up with:

School Daze (1988)
Fraternity and sorority members clash with other students at a historically black college during homecoming weekend.
-available to rent on Amazon, etc.

Crooklyn (1994)
A vibrant semi-autobiographical portrait of a school-teacher, her stubborn jazz-musician husband and their five kids living in ’70s Brooklyn.
-available to rent on Amazon, etc.

4 Little Girls (1997)
A documentary of the notorious racial terrorist 1963 bombing by the Ku Klux Klan of the African American 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham during the Civil Rights Movement, which killed four young girls.
*Nominated for best documentary
-available on Max, rent via Amazon, etc. Rent at Denver Public Library

Noteworthy:

  • We will discuss all three films but please feel free to join if you only watch a couple.
  • We will meet at Edgewater Public Market. There is plenty of parking and several food / beverage options.
  • The plan is to sit outside at one of the large tables. Stay tuned because we might end up inside at the brewery.
