Herzog Pt 2: Dreaming at the Edge of the World
Details
As the nights grow longer, what better time to explore the muddied shadows of our collective dreams and collective madness?
Presenting three more Herzog films for your consideration:
(This is a watch at home, discuss in person event.)
Heart of Glass (1976) "In Director Werner Herzog's most conceptual film, a small Bavarian town is plunged into a mysterious and haunted despair when the owner of the town's glass factory dies without passing on the secret formula for its special ruby-colored glass." (Netflix synopsis)
Production note: Herzog individually hypnotized nearly all of the performers before filming their scenes!

Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010) Herzog's film crew explores the Chauvet cave in southeastern France, home to the world's oldest known paintings- around 30,000 years old. Do these depictions of our earliest dreams represent the moment humans became "human"?

Encounters at the Edge of the World (2007) At McMurdo station in Antarctica, Herzog finds a community of scientists willing to endure one of the earth's most extreme climates in order to encounter the sublime. The underwater stills are already giving me chills.
