Our book for January 2026 will be the second half of Cuentos de Eva Luna by Isabel Allende, The stories in this half of the book are: Maria la boba, Lo más olvidado del olvido, El Pequeño Heidelberg, La mujer del juez, Un camino hacia el Norte, El huésped de la maestra, Con todo el respeto debido, Vida interminable, Un discreto milagro, Una venganza, Cartas de amor traicionado, El palacio imaginado y De barro estamos hechos. (Note that not all editions of the book have the stories in the same order, which is why this list is provided.).

Description: Not to be confused with Allende's earlier novel, Eva Luna, this is a collection of short stories published in 1990. Written in the style of magical realism, the stories are told by the character Eva Luna, a storyteller, and explore themes of love, memory, politics, and the strengths of women.

Note: Beginning in December of 2025, we are going to schedule more than one month to read some books in Spanish when they contain more than approximately 200 pages. We will make the decision on a case-by-case basis. In this group, we read the book in Spanish (or in English if there is a translation, a personal choice) during the month prior to the meeting. The discussion will be in Spanish.

This will be a Zoom meeting. Meeting ID: 876 1555 8231

In subsequent months, the books we will be reading and discussing are:
February and March 2026, Cinco Días de Octubre by Jordi Sierra i Fabra,, 2011, ~300 pages. El tercer libro de la serie del inspector Mascarell.
