What we’re about
This group is for women in the greater Denver metro area who have had, are intending to have, or are considering a mastectomy, whether prophylactic or due to a cancer diagnosis.
After my prophylactic double mastectomy with reconstruction in November 2023, I was surprised to find that there are no support groups specific to mastectomies in the Denver area. I found breast cancer support groups, but not all who have BC have mastectomies, and not all who have mastectomies have BC, so that didn't feel appropriate for me, nor does it feel appropriate that the only place women have to talk about the challenges related specifically to mastectomies is in the same room in which others may be processing harsher prognoses, recurrences of cancer, etc.
While there are a number of online communities filled with amazing women, I believe in the benefit of human connection and interaction. Sometimes we need to be physically witnessed by other people who understand what we're going through.
In-person meetings are coming, but I wanted to create the space to begin building community.
