Moab: Klondike Bluffs Ride
Details
MEET at 9:30 AM at Lion’s Park (see 4/23 ride for location); carpool (as desired) ~17 miles N on UT 191; look for turnout on right – typically cars parked there. Go through the gate and drive 2.7 miles on a rocky road/non-4WD can make it, just drive carefully. Keep left at the fork; at 2.8 miles park in large lot. MEET at ~10:00 AM at start; wheels rolling after all have arrived and are ready.
Intermediate level ride; challenges include steep sections on slick rock and lack of shade. Ride starts on a sandy road – may be limited hike-a-bike; road transitions into a huge field of slick rock that gradually intensifies in grade, pushing 10-percent. Follow the white markers. See dinosaur tracks! It’s a pretty gradual slope that isn’t too steep. At the upper end we’ll stash bikes for a half-mile walk to the Klondike Bluffs viewpoint. Returning, we may ride back on the Baby Steps trails. On upper part of Baby Steps, we can ride Little Salty and connect with Dino Flow, which skirts the edge of the escarpment and ends back at the parking lot. E-bikes allowed.
