Unlike previous years, when we started this ride at my cabin, we will start it at the location above. This will extend the ride a bit, so if you are used to the shorter ride from my cabin, this one will feel longer. The last .4 miles of the drive to the parking area is steep with deep ruts, so a higher-clearance car/truck is preferred. I have seen Suburu Outbacks up there, so it is doable, but take your time. If you don't want to risk it, there is a small parking area about 0.4 miles from the main parking area.
This ride itself is in fairly dense Aspen and Pine at about 10k feet of elevation. Roughly 16 miles and 2k of elevation change. It's a spectacular ride with many wonderful viewpoints. For most of the ride, we will be paralleling 3 different creeks....Cave Creek, 12 Mile, and Sheep Creek, with some water crossings. Most of the ride is fairly rocky with a couple of beautiful open meadow sections. We saw two moose in the 12 Mile Meadow the last time we rode it. I would rate this ride as difficult for those on analog bikes and intermediate for those on e-bikes. Leave questions in the comments section.
