Description:

Grab your sketchbook, beach chair, and plenty of water for a laid-back creative meetup at Cherry Creek Reservoir!

We’ll gather on the sandy beach in front of the large gazebo on the east side of the reservoir. From there, everyone can settle into a comfortable spot, enjoy the lake views, and create at their own pace.

Sketch the water, gazebo, trees, beach activity, boats, people, or anything else that catches your eye. You’re also welcome to work on your own project while enjoying the scenery and company.

This is an open, beginner-friendly meetup with no formal lesson and no pressure to create a finished piece. Come to relax, practice, meet other creative people, and enjoy a summer day by the lake.

📍 Where We’ll Meet

We’ll meet on the sand directly in front of the large gazebo on the east side of Cherry Creek Reservoir.

Look for the Wandering Sketchbook group near the gazebo. I’ll share additional location guidance in the event comments if needed.

🎨 What to Expect

🧺 What to Bring

• Your preferred art supplies
• Sketchbook, watercolor paper, canvas, or another portable surface
• Beach chair, folding chair, or towel
• Umbrella or another source of shade
• Plenty of drinking water
• Sun hat and sunglasses
• Sunscreen
• Snacks or lunch
• Comfortable clothing suitable for the weather

Please keep your setup portable since we’ll be gathering directly on the sand rather than around tables.

☀️ Helpful Notes

There may be limited natural shade on the beach, so an umbrella, sunshade, or wide-brimmed hat is strongly recommended.

Colorado sun and heat can be intense, especially near the water. Please bring more water than you think you’ll need and reapply sunscreen throughout the meetup.

Wind near the reservoir can also pick up unexpectedly. Consider bringing clips, painter’s tape, or a small weight to keep loose paper and supplies from blowing away.

This is an outdoor event and may need to be adjusted or rescheduled if there is dangerous weather, heavy rain, lightning, extreme heat, or strong wind.

🌊 A Simple Creative Challenge

Try creating one page with several small studies from the afternoon:

• The gazebo
• A tree silhouette
• Reflections on the water
• A beach umbrella
• People relaxing near the shore
• A tiny landscape of the reservoir

You can make quick sketches, color studies, or written observations. The goal is to capture the feeling of the day rather than create one perfect finished piece.
