July's Sci-Fi Book at Koelbel Library: The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress

Details

Join us for July's sci-fi book club meetup to discuss 'The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress' by Robert Heinlein.

Our meetings start loosely, hanging out with new and old friends while everyone arrives. After most people arrive, there are introductions and the main group discussion about the book. As that runs out of steam, everyone drifts into whatever groups and topics make them happy.

We are meeting again at Koelbel Library. We have 'Meeting Room C' reserved, which is found at the back of the library's cafe. It has sofas, easy chairs, and a variety of tables with stools. The library cafe will be open for the first half hour. "Light snacks and covered drinks" are also allowed in the space but alcohol is not.

We will have to leave the building at 5 PM, but there is a nice patio area to linger outside. I know I'll want to continue talking. There are also a couple restaurants across the street and it is only a couple blocks to the large variety of DTC. If we do that this next time, my recommendation this time is we try Parry's Pizzeria & Taphouse which is at the same intersection with the library.

July's book description:
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein (1966) - 384 pages

On the moon is a former penal colony and it is ruled from afar by Earth. The indifferent and extractive policies forecast a certain demise of the whole settlement. For a hope of survival a rebellion forms around disparate people--a computer technician, a vigorous young female agitator, and an elderly academic--who become the movement's leaders along with Mike, a mainframe that has become secretly sentient.
