August's Sci-Fi Books at Koelbel Library: The Murderbot Diaries (Novellas 1-3)

Details

Note! This meeting is on Sunday!

Join us for August's sci-fi book club meetup to discuss 'All Systems Red,' 'Artificial Condition,' and 'Rogue Protocol' by Martha Wells. These three stories are novellas and together are about the length of a normal novel.

Our meetings start loosely, hanging out with new and old friends while everyone arrives. After most people arrive, there are introductions and the main group discussion about the book. As that runs out of steam, everyone drifts into whatever groups and topics make them happy.

We are meeting at Koelbel Library. We have 'Meeting Room C' reserved, which is found at the back of the library's cafe. It has sofas, easy chairs, and a variety of tables with stools. "Light snacks and covered drinks" are also allowed in the space but alcohol is not. Please be aware the library's cafe will not be open this day.

We will have to leave the building at 5 PM, but there is a nice patio area to linger outside. I know I'll want to continue talking. There are also a couple restaurants across the street and it is only a couple blocks to the large variety of DTC. If we do this sometime, my recommendation this time is we try Parry's Pizzeria & Taphouse which is at the same intersection with the library.

August's book description:
The Murderbot Diaries, by Martha Wells
All Systems Red (2017) - 176 pages
Artificial Conditon (2018) - 160 pages
Rogue Protocol (2018) - 160 pages

Most worlds in the corporation rim are dominated by companies entirely concerned with profit. One empty world is being surveyed by a team of scientists and their mandatory rented security android. But this SecUnit has secretly escaped human corporate control and is now staving off its boredom and existential crises by binging as much television as it can. But when the survey goes dangerously awry, the self-named Murderbot is drawn into a series of entangling events with its human clients and its past.
