The Future of DSC

Last fall, a small group of people met and decided it was time to build a socialist community in Denver independent of the existing organizations. That community we named the Denver Socialist Collective (DSC) and it was intended to be for those who identify as socialists and those who have an interest in socialism. The decision to form DSC was largely because several members of Socialist Alternative (an international socialist organization) had the the idea to develop a community without ties to another organization, something independent. It was to be a place where members could interact, plan, make community decisions, and take action as a collective without needing approval from anyone, only the community itself. After all, socialism is about more than just talking about theory but about addressing problems that we face. To further this initial idea, subsequent meetings were held, social media sites were developed, and many conversations were held. To date, we have conducted a number of meetings where we have critiqued capitalism, discussed the basics of socialism, examined community wealth building, among others; participated in direct actions, tabled, developed relations with other activist organizations, enjoyed ourselves, etc. However, despite having over 100 people on our social media sites only a small number have ever attended a meeting. As a result, we will be holding a meeting on June 29 from 11:30-1:30 at Edgewater Beer Garden to assess the future, if any, of DSC. (Note: the meeting will begin promptly at 11:30).
