Day Hike Trip to Gorge Range Trail and Wheeler Lakes

Details
Get Ready to Gorge Yourself on Nature! (and Maybe a Sandwich)
Hello fellow Outdoorsy Lovers! Are you tired of the same old Netflix routine? Do your hiking boots have cobwebs? Well, dust them off, because we're about to embark on an epic day trip to conquer the Gorge Range Trail and Wheeler Lakes!
Where We're Going (and Why You Should Come)
We're heading to the stunning trails near Copper Mountain for a hike that's rated "moderate," but trust me, it'll definitely get your heart pumping faster than a caffeine IV drip. We're talking breathtaking views, crisp mountain air, and the satisfaction of knowing you didn't spend the day glued to your couch. Plus, your furry friends are welcome to join the fun!
Important Deets (aka Pay Attention!)
- Location: Gorge Range Trail and Wheeler Lakes, near Copper Mountain.
- Difficulty: Moderate (be prepared to sweat a little!)
- Distance: 5.90 miles out-and-back.
- Elevation Gain: 1,443 feet (your glutes will thank you...eventually)
- Start Time: 6:30 AM SHARP (yes, that means setting an alarm!)
- Denver Peeps: This is a bit of a trek, so consider booking a place nearby the night before. We'll be doing the same!
Pack Like a Pro (or at Least Try To)
Okay, people, this is where things get serious. What you bring can make or break your hiking experience. So, listen up!
Essentials:
- Hiking Boots: (duh) Make sure they're broken in to avoid blisters the size of Texas.
- Water: Hydration is key! Bring more than you think you'll need.
- Salty Snacks: Because nothing tastes better than a salty snack when you're conquering a mountain. Think pretzels, nuts, or even those weird seaweed snacks (my husband's favorite) - whatever floats your boat!
- Electrolytes: Keep those muscles happy and avoid cramping.
- Sunscreen & Lip Balm: Protect your skin from the sun's wrath.
- Hat & Sunglasses: Look cool and shield your eyes. Win-win!
- Hiking Poles: Optional, but they can save your knees on the downhill.
- Warm Gear (if needed): Mountain weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers.
- Rain Jacket: Just in case Mother Nature decides to throw a curveball.
- Safety: Bear spray (just in case!)
Optional (But Highly Recommended):
- Sandals: Treat your feet to some post-hike freedom.
- Extra Socks: Because soggy socks are the worst.
- Change of Clothes: For maximum comfort on the drive home.
- Sandwiches/Drinks: We'll be hanging out at the TH after the hike to swap stories and refuel.
